What you need to back up photos & videos

  • Practiced cyberspace connexion.
  • File sizes that tin can be backed upwardly.  Your files won't exist backed up if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than 10 GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 x 256.
  • File types that tin be backed up.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Live photos tin be backed up if you use the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.

If you lot try to back up a file type not listed here, it may not work with Google Photos.

Important: Your Google Business relationship storage is shared across multiple products like Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail. If you lot have used all of your storage, you won't be able to support new files.

Turn support & sync on or off

Before y'all start, make sure you're signed in.

  • Choose the Google Account to back up photos and videos: Nether "Backup account", tap the business relationship name.
  • Change your upload size: Tap Upload size. Learn more about upload sizes.
  • Back up device folders: Tap Back up device folders and select the folders y'all desire to back up.
  • Back up on mobile data: If you don't desire to wait for Wi-Fi to back up your videos, under "Cellular data usage," tapVideos. Charges from your service provider may apply if yous upload using your mobile network.
  • Dorsum upwardly while roaming: In Photos, open Settings and tap Support & sync and then Cell data usage and plough on Dorsum up while roaming.

Back upwards with unrestricted data

Some mobile operators provide access to 'unrestricted mobile data,' which is data that doesn't count towards operator quotas or limits. This option is currently available to some users on operators like Verizon and AT&T in the U.s.a.. Important: Back up & sync might not work well if you have battery optimization turned on for the Photos app. If you have this issue, you can plough off battery optimization.

Turn off battery optimization on other Android devices

Cheque if your photos are backed upwards

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. At the pinnacle right, tap your account profile photo or initial.

As of June 1, 2021, any new photos or videos you back up in Storage saver quality (previously named Loftier quality) or Express quality volition count toward your Google Account storage. Important: Any photos or videos you've backed up in Loftier quality or Limited quality before June ane, 2021 won't count toward your Google Account storage.
